At the end of the '80 the European Commission asked the Greek Government
to implement a radical transformation of the Greek psychiatric system.
An Italian expert's staff worked for the change also in the Leros Psychiatric
Hospital. This staff was co-ordinated by the Mental Health Studies and
Research Centre of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region (Italian WHO collaborating
Centre) . The author has been responsible of the Italian team in Leros
in 1993/94.
